Stafford Platinum | 12 Dinner Plates, 12 Plates measuring 7.75â€³, 11 Cups. Josiah Spode apprenticed as a potter in the mid-1700s, and by 1754 he went to work for William Banks in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. He went on to start his own pottery business making cream-colored earthenware and whiteware with blue prints. In 1770, he took over as the master of Banksâ€™ factory, and ended up purchasing the business in 1776, according to Warmanâ€™s Antiques & Collectibles (Krause Publications) edited by Noah Fleisher. â€œSpode pioneered the use of steam-powered, pottery-making machinery and mastered the art of transfer printing from copper plates,â€ as noted in Warmanâ€™s. â€œSpode opened a London shop in 1778 and sent William Copeland there in about 1784. A number of larger London locations followed. At the turn of the 18th century, Spode introduced bone china.

19th Century Signed French Equestrian Bronze Sculpture by important and well listed French Sculptor Charles Valton (1851 â€“ 1918) | Bronze Statue depicts a bronze jockey on horse | Includes fine marble base | Approx. Dimensions: 23â€³ H x 23â€³ W x 11â€³ | Charles Valton was a French sculptor known for his works created in the animalier style, a 19th-century movement which depicted animals in active poses with realistic anatomy. He produced numerous small-scale models of African and Indian wildlife, including lions, tigers, jaguars, camels, and elephants, often using granite or white marble as the base for the bronze casts around the animal to depict stone or snow. Born on January 26, 1851 in Pau, France, Valton grew up in the French capitol and spent much of his time at the Jardin des Plantes botanical garden. He also studied with two artists who served as the directors of the Parisian zoological garden. Valtonâ€™s work was exhibited regularly in the Paris Salons between 1868 and 1914, and the
