1st appearance of Mantis (Mandy Celestine) \n \nBlack Widow quits the Avengers \n \n'The Lion God Lives!' – (20-page story) – Somewhere in Africa, a newspaper reporter has come to see a tribe that worships a real African god of myth, however his big scoop turns out to be more than he bargained for when his own soul is offered up as sacrifice to the Lion God. \nLater in New York, the Scarlet Witch is helping Black Widow settle in Avengers Mansion when suddenly they're alerted of a disturbance outside. A number of African American protesters have shown up protesting that the Black Panther has 'sold out' to the 'white establishment' of the United States and demand that he return to Africa. These protesters manage to crash the doors and get into the mansion where they try to attack the Panther. In the confrontation, T’Challa demands answers when he's told they were organized by the news reporter who demands that the Black Panther come with him. Suddenly the Black Panther bows in subservience, as the reporter reveals he is the Lion God in disguise. The Lion God explains that he has come to take T’Challa back to Africa and succeeds in doing so before the Avengers have a chance to stop him. \nElsewhere, the being known as Mantis and her mysterious partner decide that the time is right to join the ranks of the Avengers. In Africa, the Lion God has Black Panther shackled as his prisoner and explains that he seeks to crush the Panther God and all who worship him. Back in New York, as the Avengers contemplate how to rescue their friend, the Lion God returns with Black Panther. \nThe Avengers battle the Lion God and the lions which he summoned. At first, the Lion God has the upper hand, however, the Black Panther manages to get free and turn the tide. Thor summons lightning and commands it to strike the Lion God's staff, causing the being to disappear. After the battle, the Black Widow decides that being in the Avengers is not for her and quits the group to return to Daredevil. Elsewhere, the Lion God has survived and is already plotting his revenge against the Black Panther. : Condition: 3.0 112 / 770 sold -

With Two Beside Them!' – (20-page story, continued from Avengers #110 and Daredevil #99) – Magneto has captured the X-Men and most of the Avengers and are now holding them prisoner, and bending their wills using his newly discovered ability to magnetically control people by affecting the iron in their blood stream. Meanwhile, Thor, Black Panther and Vision have returned to New York having just recruited Black Widow and Daredevil in their mission to save the other Avengers (A mission Hawkeye refused to join and stayed behind in San Francisco). \nLater that night, Magneto sends the enslaved Avengers and X-Men to attack a gathering of intelligence officials. This kidnapping attempt is interrupted by the arrival of the remaining Avengers and their allies who are unable to stop their foes, and are unable to follow for fear that Magneto will start dumping their comrades out of the ship. After the battle, the heroes soon realize that the Vision has gone missing. \nAt Magneto's secret lair, the master of magnetism explains that he plans to use his collection of nuclear specialists to create atomic devices that will create him an army of mutants to command. He explains to them how his previous attempt failed, however by capturing and manipulating the Angel, he was able to recharge his body and capture the X-Men. The heroes press onward in hopes of stopping Dormammu from finalizing the transition. \nDeep in the Dark Dimension, Dormammu unleashed the full fury of the reassembled Evil Eye, and when Loki asks Dormammu to restore his vision, the god of mischief is betrayed and imprisoned by Dormammu. The Watcher then appears, but informs Dormammu that he has only come to view the events and not get involved. While in Earth's dimension its many protectors and menaces band together to fight off the invasion from the Dark Dimension. \nThe Avengers and Defenders manage to finally reach Dormammu, but their attacks are easily repelled by the power of the Evil Eye. The beam from the Evil Eye then trains on Loki restoring his vision and making him go mad. \nWith the battle won, the merging of Earth and the Dark Dimension ceases and everything is restored to normal. The Assassin Never Fails!' – (18-page story, continued from previous issue) – Captain America, having been bombarded by the Assassin with lethal radiation, hangs between life and death. As the Avengers and Falcon await news of his condition, Donald Blake works tirelessly to heal his comrade. To cover Thor's absence while Blake works, Iron Man creates a Thor LMD to assume his place. Meanwhile, the Assassin sends hired minions in to kill the Avengers on behalf of their many enemies. \nIron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision, watching over Captain America, are given tea, though the Vision doesn't take any. Hobbled by the drugs hidden within, the Avengers struggle to hold off the Assassin's minions but are gassed into submission; the minions then shoot the LMD, rendering it lifeless and convincing them they have killed the real Thor. The Vision tries to hold his own, but the Assassin, attaching a device to his back, deactivates him, then laughs, for the drugs that the Avengers drank will kill them. \nUpon investigating the Thor LMD, the Assassin realizes the truth and that Thor and Donald Blake are the same person. Figuring that Donald Blake would make an easier target in his mortal guise, the Assassin is about to attack when Vision, Hawkeye, and Iron Man revive. Both Hawkeye and Iron Man claim to have thrown up the drugs though Iron Man's new synthetic heart seems to have been immune to it. The three Avengers then attack. \nDuring the battle, Iron Man's repulsor rays shred the Assassin's costume, revealing the nurse who served them the drugged drinks. Mocking them for their surprise at her gender, she distracts them long enough for her to toss a gas bomb and escape out a window, but when she tries to warn her troops they no longer recognize her and gun her down, fearing their cover is blown. The remaining troops are easily defeated by the Avengers and turned over to the authorities. Donald Blake later manages to cure Captain America, who is soon released from the hospital. \nThe Assassin's employer is approached by Angelo, furious that his sister, Maria, was sent to take on the Avengers, a task beyond her limits. The employer shoots Angelo, then removes his mask, revealing he's their father and kills himself.: Condition: 4.5 181 / 770 -
