Sale Description

NOTE: A PREVIEW WILL BE HELD FRIDAY 9/21 FROM 10AM - 6PM AND ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SALE ON  SATURDAY 9/22 AT 9AM

Tresor is partnering with Nadeau's Auction Gallery to conduct an on-site auction of the Eileen Slocum Estate at The Harold Brown Villa. The massive 13,962-square-foot home was built in 1895 by Harold Brown, son of John Carter Brown (the namesake of Brown University) and Sophia Augusta Brown, a descendant of Roger Williams. The interior its furnishings are inspired by the Browns’ honeymoon to Paris. And, Designer Ogden Codman — a contemporary of Edith Wharton — used pieces the Browns purchased in France, including furniture once owned by Napoleon, as focal points in the design.  Many of the furniture items in the auction are pieces that the Browns commissioned Mr. Codman to make for the home. He used the French pieces as design inspiration and the A.H. Davenport Co. of Boston manufactured them.

In the mid-1950s, the estate was sold to Harold’s niece, Eileen Slocum, a prominent socialite. As family tell us, when Eileen Slocum moved in, she did virtually nothing. And, the estate remains a bit of a time capsule today with most of the treasures purchased by family members still in the home.

This exquisite home is full of treasures. I have included a few images here but for the entire list of of 400 lots and their descriptions, please go to Nadeau's Auction Gallery's website, www.nadeausauctions.com of use this link, https://www.nadeausauction.com...

THERE WILL BE A FOOD CONCESSION SERVING BOTH BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ITEMS
