Address will be supplied on the day before the sale on our website and estatesales.org.
Please always respect the residence:
Serving the residence, the grounds, the items for sale, and the person or family whose estate is being sold is our primary goal. Please refrain from negative or derogatory remarks. Often there has been a recent loss and/or a serious, life-changing circumstance that has been difficult or sensitive for those making the choices, so all due respect is warranted.
Enter the sale at your own risk:
We have made every attempt to identify any physical hazards. However, shoppers must be aware that during the excitement, crowds and distractions that are inevitable before, during and after a sale, someone may be injured. Please be aware that you enter into this situation at your own risk. Please be aware of your surroundings and other shoppers. Feel free to seek assistance from the staff in case of injury or potential hazards.
Unpaid items may be ‘held’ for a maximum of one (1) hour.
We always try to have a designated area for items or piles ‘on hold’ while you continue to shop. Please use the supplies provided to mark your items with your name and time it was placed on hold. Do not shop for additional items from these areas as others have claimed them. The hold pile is checked regularly and after 1 hour items will be replaced to the sale area. Please do not place things in the hold area that you do not intend to purchase (this practice is referred to as hoarding and can get you banned from future sales).
All items are sold “AS IS” and only once:
Please believe this and make sure you want what you are buying. This is not a retail store and we do not offer refunds or exchanges. We normally have about 22 hours of sale to empty an entire house so please don’t expect us to sell something twice. There are outlets and extension cords, please plug it in and try it. Please don’t ask that our sales people demonstrate items. If there is an issue with any item that we know of, the item will be clearly marked with a description of the said issue. We have tape measures, please measure the item. Look it over and under and inside. Above all, be sure you want it, check it over, then buy it and enjoy!
All items are sold “WHERE IS”:
Please make sure you are able to dismantle, move, load, etc. what you are buying. We will have tools such as screwdrivers, ratchets, wrenches, hand truck, etc. for use. We DO NOT provide for loading, unloading or delivery. You will need to provide your own labor for item removal.
Removal of purchases:
Payment in full must be made prior to removal of any item from the premises. Items must be removed the day of the sale and are expected to be removed shortly after having been paid for unless prior arrangements have been made with management of Taos Estate Sales. It may be possible to hold items that have been paid for until the end of the sale if no other arrangements can be made. Any items left unclaimed after the final date will be forfeited and can be resold or removed by Taos Estate Sales unless prior arrangements have been made.
Cash – it doesn’t cost us anything to take (unlike credit cards), and it does not bear any risk to our client. Experienced shoppers know the best deals come to those paying cash.
Credit/Debit cards – for purchases over $20 (unless otherwise stated above).
Certified/Cashiers Checks – we accept certified checks drawn on an established bank or financial institution or postal orders for larger purchases such as automobiles, art, furniture, etc. as this form of payment does not put our client at risk. Please check with us before providing a certified/cashier check.
We do not accept personal checks – Why? 1.) We will not put our client at risk by receiving a bad check. 2.) If someone can write a valid check than they can also use a debit card to pay for their purchase directly from their checking account. 3.) ATM are plentiful and we will be happy to put a hold on your items for 1 hour while you avail yourself of their services.
On the first day of a sale we don’t negotiate prices unless it happens to be a small one-day-only sale or if you are purchasing a large number of items. Any day after the first day we are usually open to negotiation. Percentage off offers, box lots or bag sales will be clearly posted. Prices are subject to change at any time and offers to sell may be revoked at any time. If there is a dispute in regards to a price or between customers, the management of Taos Estate Sales reserves the right to resolve the dispute at their own discretion.
If there is an item you would care to purchase but don’t feel comfortable with the posted price, whether original price or a reduction, leave a bid or an offer for that item. If the item is still unsold after the sale we may be able to accept your offer. Bids will not be reviewed or considered until after the sale has closed.
Admittance to Taos Estate Sales:
Entering a Taos Estate Sale implies consent to and an agreement to comply with all stated policies and procedures. The management of Taos Estate Sales reserves all rights to refuse entry to any individual or group at their own discretion and without stated cause.
A body in line represents one spot:
Our regular sale starting times and dates are well advertised and vary. Line up outside the property if arriving early. We do not hand out numbers as we feel that as adults, we are able to maintain an orderly line without a number. However, depending on the size of the sale, Taos Estate Sales reserves the right to limit the number of buyers allowed into a property at their discretion. We let as many people enter the premises as is reasonable but that number is dependent on many factors. We don't like to keep you waiting and would much rather have you inside shopping, but sometimes a huge crowd compromises our goals and obligation to our client. A body in line is a body in line. Please don’t drop your bag in line at 6 AM and expect it to hold a place for you. Don’t get in line and let 10 or so of your friends to join you later as this is not fair or reasonable or all others who have been waiting behind you.
No pets or strollers:
No pets or animals of any kind will be allowed into Taos Estate Sales. Wagging tails, leashes, collars and the occasional scuffle can damage or destroy sale items and occasional ‘accidents’ can distract one of our sales people away from their job. If you bring a child with you the stroller must be kept out of the premises and the child must be kept with you at all times. You will be held responsible for and be made to pay for any damages done by an errant child. Taos Estate Sales is in no way responsible for any injuries your child may sustain at any of our sales.
Handle items carefully:
If you damage or destroy any item at Taos Estate Sales in any circumstance, you will pay the posted price for the item. No exceptions.
Shoplifting Is A Crime:
Security and loss prevention are priorities for us. If you are caught in the act of shoplifting inside or outside of the premises, the police will be notified and you will be subject to full prosecution. This is a serious issue for us as we are working with clients, some of whom are experiencing financial straits, who must trust us to sell their items for the highest price and the least loss.
Any of the stated Taos Estate Sales policies and procedures are subject to change at any time.
