Frederick Boyd Waters was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada October 10, 1879. He was the oldest son of Frederick Waters and Emily Lacy. Frederick and Emily were both from England but met and married in Canada. The family lived in Stratford, Ontario for quite some time where Boyd's father owned and operated a picture framing and stationery business.
Sometime just before 1901, the family moved to Winnipeg where Boyd's brother Horace had a job with the railroad. In 1906, Horace was killed in a train wreck, and the family scattered shortly thereafter. Boyd and his parents came to England, and the remaining family stayed in Canada.
There were no other artists in the immediate family that I know of. I believe that William Richard Waters (a portrait painter and sometimes photographer in Dover Kent) is likely related.
There are a number of Boyd's paintings with the Canadian family. They were sent out to Canada by Boyd himself in the 1940's. They are still life and scenery.
Submitted November 2010 by Ann Belanger, a relative of the artist. She writes: "He did not seem to have done much on this side of the ocean before leaving for England." In England, he was a member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters.
