Coordinated set of three vintage English monumental brass rubbings depicting medieval knights and nobility in elaborate armor and heraldic dress. According to the owner, the pieces are English in origin. Executed in metallic gold/brass tones against dark backgrounds, the rubbings display exceptional detail, including chain mail, plate armor, heraldic shields, fleur-de-lis, crowns, swords and lions positioned beneath the figures. The designs are based upon the engraved monumental brasses historically installed in English churches as memorials to knights, nobles and other prominent individuals. With the viable textured metallic surfaces these seem to be traditional brass-rubbing technique rather than conventional printed etchings. All three are framed under glass in coordinating metallic-tone frames. Each piece bears an “Athanasios” label from Erlenbach, Germany, on the reverse, possibly associated with a dealer, workshop or later framing. Good vintage condition with age-related wear, some surface/paper variation and wear to the frames. Please review photographs for condition. Sold together as a set of three. -

Close examination of the printing shows characteristics consistent with period lithographic printing and applied color. Based on the visible markings and printing characteristics, these are believed to be original period hand-colored lithographs rather than later reproductions; authenticity has not been professionally verified. All three are attractively presented in coordinating wood frames with layered matting. The prints exhibit age-related toning, fading and/or spotting consistent with their age. Frames show normal wear. Please review photographs closely for condition and identifying marks. Sold together as a set of three. Each are 17” X 14” -
