This is a Japanese silk brocade and all actual gold and white threads embroidered highly formal Kimono , worn only by a bride or at a stage performance, called Ushikaki..It is supposed to be worn outside the actual kimono as sort of a coat. One therefore never ties the Obi around the Ushikaki. It is also supposed to trail along the floor , that is also why it is heavily padded along the hem.. The colors on this one are bold and magnificent. Gold and white embroidered Cranes and tree blossom design..The lining is padded in red shimmers with gold threads. I was fortunate to purchase this from an amazing Estate of a Chinese Diplomat who lived in Kyoto Japan by the Gion district..No words nor pictures can describe the beauty and handwork of this to Die for Ushikaki. I believe it is from the very late 1940's or 1950's and in very good vintage condition for its age, An amazing piece of japanese History of wearable art. And what an Art this one is will fit a M/L
