Rare Vintage Film Reels: For movie buffs, rare and important nitrate film reels for the movie "Ingagi". It's very possible that these are some of the only, if not the only, remaining nitrate super 16 reels for this 1930's film. Pre-dating King Kong by three years, this film was shot and marketed as a documentary of explorers going to a remote island in search of a tribe that worships gorillas. The film was completely faked, the "famed" explorers were actors, the filmmakers were sued for using footage from other people's films, it was extremely exploitative, and was the highest grossing film for its day, bringing in 4 million dollars in 1930. The Library of Congress has one 35mm print and one duplicate negative, however they only have one of the Vitaphone sound discs. It is believed that all other nitrate reels of this film are completely disintegrated and gone. Each of these reels show signs of damage, especially on the leader ends. You can clearly see safari imagery and animals and such in the frames. Condition of the internal film on the reels is unknown. Own a piece of lost history!
