General Colin Powell was an American general and diplomat who served the country for many decades. He served in Vietnam, rising ranks and earning the Soldier’s Medal for bravery. His military career continued into the 1980s, reaching the rank of four-star general. From the 1990s to the 2010s, he transitioned to diplomatic and political positions, becoming the United States’ first Black secretary of state under President George W. Bush. In My American Journey, Powell’s first memoir, he reflects on his military career with insights about his successes, challenges, and personal development. Published just after his military retirement, it foregrounds his service and vividly recounts his childhood. Several years later, he was appointed the secretary of state. The work was co-authored with Joseph E. Persico. It was a bestseller and remains a notable military memoir from the era. This first trade edition, first printing is signed by Colin Powell on a bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper. It is in fine condition. In the original quarter cloth, fine. Text block very nearly fine, only minor soiling to bottom edge. In the original dust jacket, fine. A fine signed first trade edition by General Colin Powell.
