Corked 5.5" corked brown scored stoneware crock signed Sinclair Ashley. (1942-1997), a Chattanooga native. The 5" high teapot appears to be signed "Vaughn". It is glazed in a matte milk drip glaze over stoneware. Sinclair W. Ashley is known for creating functional and decorative pottery. The work was developed on the potter’s wheel, most often using stoneware clay. Ashley frequently glazed his work in a variety of earth tones and occasionally used these glazes to create abstract landscape decorations on his work. Firing was completed in a cone 10 gas reduction kiln. Ashley worked with Charles Counts at Rising Fawn Pottery, before opening his own studio in Chattanooga.
