546 ITEM: An Original Barn & Wagon Watercolor Painting DESCRIPTION: This lovely original watercolor painting is by noted and listed Kansas Regionalist artist, Randy Penner. The artist has rendered an impressive, distressed country barn with an old hay wagon parked out front in overgrown grass. The wagon is marked “HUMPHREYS” in red paint. The painting is signed at the bottom right margin in watercolor. SIZE FRAMED: 21 x 17 inches PRICE: $ 110. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Randy Penner (1921-2002) was born near Hillsboro, Kan. On Dec. 29, 1946, he married Luella Tieszen. They lived in Newton, KS, Hudson, WI, Freeman, SD. He attended Wichita State University and Bethel College in North Newton and earned his BA in Fine Arts. He later worked as an illustrator for printing, calendar, and aviation companies as well as other commercial endeavors. Penner later transitioned solely to fine art, specializing in watercolors. He also wrote and illustrated an autobiography, “A Harvest of Memories,” depicting his younger years on a Kansas farm. A retrospective of his work was published in 1983, “The Watercolor World of Randy Penner.” Penner was a former president (1985-87) and active member of the Midwest Watercolor Society, the Wisconsin Watercolor Society, and the American Society of Aviation Artists. His paintings hang in private and corporate collections across the nation. He also painted on-location throughout North America as well as in Europe, Jamaica and Guatemala. His work has been exhibited nationally and has included one-man exhibitions as in his show at The Phipps Center.
