COMES WITH PROBABLY 1950'S FRAME WHICH WILL BE REPLACED BY THE TIME THE PAINTING IS SOLD. THE PAINTING IS A LANDSCAPE AT SUNSET WITH POND AND BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS IMAGES. MEASURES 24" X 18" WITHOUT FRAME. BOTTOM LEFT THERE ARE FEW FLAKES WHICH CAN BE EASILY FIXED BY A CURATOR. ​JAMES HOPE WAS BORN IN SCOTLAND IN 1818 AND PASSED AWAY IN 1892. AT A YOUNG AGE HE AND HIS MOTHER MOVED TO CANADA WHERE HIS FATHER LIVED AND SPENT TIME IN MONTREAL WHILE SELF LEARNING HOW TO PAINT. UPON MOVING TO STATES, HE BEGUN TEACHING PAINTING AT CASTLE TON SEMINARY. AS CAPTAIN, HE JOINED THE CIVIL WAR WHERE HE WAS KNOWN FOR HIS PAINTING AND SKETCHES. YEARS LATER, AN ENTIRE COLLECTION OF HIS DURING THE VIVIL WAR WORK WAS DESTROYED BY WATER. ​SOME OF HIS WORK IS ON DISPLAY AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART AND AT A TIME, ONE OF HIS PAINTINGS WAS ON DISPLAY AT THE WHITE HOUSE.This item has a reserve.
