Woven baskets have been utilized by humans for millennia, serving essential roles in storage, transport, and even as decorative items. Materials vary widely by region and available resources, including grasses, reeds, straw, willow, and bamboo. The craftsmanship often reflects cultural traditions and the intended use of the basket. This particular basket, likely made from river reeds, showcases a traditional weaving technique common in many cultures. Its substantial size and sturdy handles suggest it was designed for carrying goods, perhaps for market or agricultural purposes. The mid-20th century dating places it in an era where handmade items were still prevalent before the widespread adoption of mass production.
