TECHNICS SL-D2 turntable, “C.1980 state of the art” direct drive Hi-Fi Stereo turntable. Designed and built for USA market 120V AC electricity, unlike the used imports from Japan currently on ebay built for Japan's 100V electricity, Beware! This is a “ONE OWNER” previously owned and well cared for item. It is the ancestor of today's current production TECHNICS SL-1200GME (SL-1200X series) (sold at 'upscaleaudio. com') current state of the art, top of the line turntables used by professional D-Js ! The SL-D2 is so well built that with proper care it could very easily outlive it's next owner(s). The direct drive system means NO drive belt to brake and no motor brushes to replace. Effectively no parts in the motor/turntable mechanism to periodically replace. Just a light cleaning and a drop of oil from time to time. This is a “lifetime” investment. It boasts a double vibration isolation structure with suspended base feet and TNRC, an acoustic material with excellent vibration absorption characteristics for the cabinet and base components. In addition, it is designed to minimize unnecessary resonance space (beat) as much as possible and to absorb vibration most effectively. In essence, by design it minimizes record “skip” caused by bump, bass, footsteps, etc. The bearing structure of the tone arm employs a high-sensitivity “gimbal” suspension system with an in-house high-precision pivot bearing. This enables horizontal and vertical rotational axes to intersect at a single point, achieving an initial motion sensitivity of only 7mg, both horizontal and vertical motion. It is equipped with a “State of the Art” in the day “Pickering” cartridge and stylus assembly including hard case & data sheet. Pickering cartridges are still hard to beat (or even equal) yet today. @> Precision Direct Drive System @> Brush-less silent DC motor (no brushes to whine or wear out) @> Power requirement: 120VAC (US) 50Hz/60Hz, 4 watts @> B/FG servo motor control system @> Aluminum die-cast & balanced platter, 31.2cm (approx. 12.28”) @> Two speeds, 33-1/3 & 45 RPM @> Platter has 4 sets of timing marks for 2 speeds & 50/60Hz @> Timing strobe for precise speed adjustment @> Rotating dial rotational speed fine adjust to +/- 10% @> Minimal Wow and Flutter = 0.03% W.R.M.S. overall @> Signal-to-noise ratio = 75dB overall @> Tone Arm = tubular “S” shaped alloy, static balanced w/7.5g O.E.M. TECHNICS head @> Tone arm “out of use/park” safety lock @> Gimbal tone arm suspension w/7mg initial rotational bi-directional axis sensitivity @> Tone Arm fine balance rotary adjustable counter weight w/needle pressure range 0~2.5g and fine adjustable anti-skate tracking mechanism. @> Equipped with a “Pickering” state of the art in the day cartridge/stylus assembly (No I.D. but believed to be VX-15) w/instructions & hard case @> Stylus is D8E elliptical (0.3x0.7 microns) diamond for deep groove Hi-Fidelity performance (NOTE! Stylus is damaged, needs replacement verified available online at this writing). This COMPLETE assembly includes the hard to find hinged dust cover w/both hinge tabs intact, but there IS a small crack in the cover top (see photo). Also, the platter mat is degraded and should be replaced at minimal cost. NOTE: This is NOT a free-standing record player! Attachment to component audio system is required. Includes the original instruction booklet/owners manual. This is as complete as you are likely to find and comes in the original box with original packaging! This is NOT a childs' toy! WARNING!
