"The Old Stone House, L.I., 1699" by Nathaniel Currier (American, 1813-1888), the house is also known as Vechte-Courtelyou House in Brooklyn, New York, and it is a National Historic Landmark due to its importance in the Battle of Brooklyn during the Revolutionary War. "Poughkeepsie Collegiate School," modeled after the Parthenon in Athens, Greece with its column supported foundation, opened in 1836 and later became the Poughkeepsie Military Institute before burning down.
