This auction lot is for a collection of 5 postcards showing scenes from a play produced at the Wyndham Theater in London, England about 1909. An Englishman's Home caused a sensation in London when it appeared anonymously, under the name "A Patriot", in 1909. The writer Guy du Maurier was a regular officer in the British Army, who had seen active service during the South African War and who would be killed in France in 1915. An Englishman's Home is a threat-of-invasion play.. The title is a reference to the expression "an Englishman's home is his castle". These 5 postcards are part of a Rotary Photographic Series. They are in very good condition and ready for your collection or framing.
