Rectangular top above a hinged slanting writing surface with central inlaid compass star/rose design, opening to an interior fitted with small drawers, valanced cubbyholes, and a document drawer, the base with two short drawers above two long drawers with herringbone inlay crossbanding, full dust boards, and ogle edge molding on drawer dividers, brasses are replaced, raised on shaped feet, secondary woods are pine and oak. Circa fist half of 18th century. This piece was part of the Lane Middleton Estate. It was used as a templet and reproduced by Baker Furniture as part of their Historic Charleston Foundation Collection. Condition is consistent with age and use. Appraised by Read & Mullin LLC for $4500. Dimensions 40†H x 36†W x 19†D with slant top closed, 34†D with slant top open.
