24" Tall, Missing a Staff or sword. Antique! Collectible. Very large and imposing majolica, Baroque revival centerpiece of a river mermaid riding a Spanish galleon. This piece is titled NIXE, a water sprite of German origin. It is unmarked but may possibly be by Minton. The work is of the highest quality in design and execution. The mermaid is balanced perfectly on the prow of the ship. She carry a prominent spear. The interior of the boat is a rich aquamarine. There is a winged griffin attached to the rear with a balustered rail above. The bottom is perched on a square plinth of dazzling colors and designs including a porpoise surrounded by coral. The whole piece is a symphony of color, spectacle and design beautiful enough to grace any table.
