Change, Healing and Need-Three Women
When I accept a sale, there is always a bond that tugs at my heart. The stories of love, heartbreak, happiness and sadness all create a certain protection I feel for the people I help.
Being able to tell a little bit about some of their lives is a comfort for me. While some are very private, others long to share their stories and speak from their hearts.
I would like to share a little about our ‘Three Women’…
Susan
Susan contacted me a couple months ago, she was a repeat visitor to my antique and consignment shop and was ready to part with a few things.
Meeting her in her home, I found boxes everywhere. Detailed hand written notes were on most with a list of each item in the box. And as she showed me all the rooms full of her life’s collection, she began showing me items she had not packed. Then she pointed out item’s that had become overwhelming and caused her great stress.
Her need from me was to remove it all, sell it and let help her lift the weight off her heart. She was a collector, a lover of finding the treasures, just like me.
Susan’s husband ended up in the hospital and we were able to remove all the boxes and other items to our shop before he came home. This was a great relief to her and her husband as well.
The wonderful collection Susan is presenting, includes so many vintage games, toys, glassware, advertising, art, pictures and even vintage clothing.
Brenda
While hosting a sale in Justin, I got an out-of-state call from a woman who was helping her mom (Brenda) find the right company to share family heirlooms.
Brenda’s mom had passed almost 6 years ago and she was still so heartbroken over her loss, she could not even speak on the phone. Her daughter had flown in to assist in finalizing some needed responsibilities.
While it was mentioned that I would probably not get to meet Brenda, I was very pleased when she came to our meeting at her Mother’s cottage.
I immediately adored Brenda, her openness and the amazing love she had for her Mother. Her daughter remained mostly silent as Brenda and I chatted about the items she became eager to show me. Our visit turned into a wonderful memory of their lives and happiness found in that little cottage.
After our tour of the items to share, we sat a wonderful little chippy-white metal table and chairs. It was here Brenda and I enjoyed the breeze, while her daughter continued her near silent support. Brenda needed to share with me and her daughter was the strength she needed to take this last step.
We will present items of art, quilts, china, furniture, books, home décor and about 50 boxes that we have no idea what is in them. This is one of my greatest pleasures, hunting in unopened boxes and Brenda was excited to share it with me.
There is a lost heirloom that the family hopes I find. How lovely it would be if I did.
Leslie
It is often I get calls from people and I can hear desperation in their voices. Sometimes I am able to help, and sometimes I can’t.
Leslie is a woman who my heart went out to and her story is of great need. She had no money, was ill and scared.
At one time she had a wonderful career in graphic design, illness took over 8 years ago and left her unable to work. Her story is one of financial need and must sell her items as she has to move.
Our visit was over two hours and I was able to help her pack and go through the things she wanted to keep. She told me it was therapy for her to finalize the decision to sell these items. I made arrangements for her items to be picked up the following week and we continued to chat every day (still do).
She is getting help and will be OK. Her life has changed and she is a strong woman and is now content to move forward. Our goal is to help her get as much financial gain from the sale of her items as we can.
Antiques furniture, stained glass, china, Laura Ashley, Broyhill and many more items will be offered.
